Financial-Planning.com has named Marigny deMauriac, CFP®, founder of deMAURIAC, one of only 10 financial advisors across the U.S. in its 2026 Rising Stars class, and the profile reads like the origin story of the firm itself.

From the counseling room to the planning table

Before finance, Marigny was a mental health counselor in New Orleans, with a master’s degree in counseling and years of in-home work on issues like domestic violence. One theme surfaced in every session.

“Every single person that I was meeting with, regardless of where they were socioeconomically, across racial divides, across gender divides, finance was a stressor,” she told Financial-Planning.com. “So I made that connection. There’s a definite problem here that I can address.”

Working two jobs while her parents neared retirement age made the question personal. She began investing for herself, interviewing people across the finance sector, and eventually landed on planning, starting at Edward Jones before launching her own firm, the eponymous deMAURIAC.

One generation

The profile also captures why the firm’s focus on women is not a marketing angle. It is lived history.

“When my mom was getting divorced in the ’90s, at that time, she wasn’t able to take out a business loan without a man’s co-sign. And yet, in a community property state in Louisiana, when they got divorced, she was responsible for half of the debt that he took out,” Marigny shared. “My mom couldn’t take out a business loan, and now I’m running a finance firm. That’s a pretty amazing transition in one generation.”

That history shapes the work today: serving women at transition points, including divorce and the death of a partner, and helping women launch careers and businesses and grow what they already have.

Beyond the client roster

Marigny regularly contributes pro bono time mentoring aspiring entrepreneurs and offering business coaching, including work through Vanderbilt University’s Women in Business program and Loyola University’s entrepreneurship programs. The firm’s telewealth model, a necessity during COVID, means deMAURIAC serves clients across the country while she volunteers with and for women across the Gulf South.

As Ragini Nayar, a paraplanner extern who has worked with Marigny, put it: “She has built her firm around a thesis the broader industry is only beginning to embrace, that women’s economic mobility is both an underserved market and a civil rights issue, and that independent, women-owned firms are essential to closing the gap.”
